Mutual Fund Research

As with any investment, you should do your research before you invest your hard-earned dollars. With Mutual Funds, you will want to research the type and actual securities that the funds buys and also look at the track record of the funds. You will also want to research the fees the fund charges and compare with other like-kind funds. Also, how long has the management been in place and is the manager planning to retire? For example, if you looking for a Large Cap Growth Mutual Fund, you should pull a comparision of like funds and check their returns over a 5 year period - maybe 10 years. Take about the top 5 funds with the best returns and then start to read up on them. Look at the stocks they currently hold, check the turnover rate, check the expenses and fees and read the prospectus. From there you can probably narrow your search down to 1 or 2 that you feel most comfortable with.
