ETF - Exchange Traded Funds
Exchange Traded Funds or ETF's are becomming more popular daily as new funds are being released and they offer
some advantages over Mutual Funds. There are Exchange Traded Funds for most every asset class of stocks, preious metals.
commodities, sectors and regions. Two of the most appealing factors of exchange traded funds are they trade throughout
the day just like stocks and their expenses are minimal compared to mutual funds.
Obviously this is going to be an issue for Mutual Funds as they may lose (or are losing) potential investment dollars to
Exchange Traded Funds. They are certainly a more "pure play" of the markets. Investors and traders are able to day trade
ETFs, use options to hedge or gain more leverage and have more dollars working for them due to the lower expense structure.
Mutual Fund Managers will have to counter with the fact that they are managing your investment and they can beat the market.
Maybe so, maybe not.
Nevertheless, you still have to do some research on which sectors or Exchange Traded Funds to invest. If
you are buying stock index ETFs, it is much simpler. If you are buying sector funds, don't turn into a day trader
if you are a long term investor. You will almost always come out much better with a buy and hold strategy. If
most professionals can't beat the market, why be stubborn and think that you can?
